This morning on the way to work, I stopped by Krispy Kreme to pick up donuts for another department who went above and beyond the call of duty to help my department out. Their treat was the donuts. My treat was the fresh FREE donut I got when I picked up their donuts. YUM!

I found this old French looking finial at an antique shop near where I get my hair cut. I loved roaming throughout the shop and next time I get my hair done, I'm visiting it again.

Since there is a reading restriction on this week, there will be lots of knitting and gazing at pictures in my knitting books. Already so hard!

Photo Friday -- Vain

This week's Photo Friday theme is "vain". This is the tomb of a very vain man who once ruled France.

I'm watching my brother's house this weekend while he's up skiing at Whistler with his wife. Phoenix and I have been busy watching T.V., chasing the cat and bothering the other dog.

Dick's is a Seattle institution. It's the place you go once the bars close for cheap burgers and hot fries. It's the place you head over to on a lazy Saturday. Crowds line up and create a hoard like mentality.

Throughout the city of Seattle, there are these brushed metal statues and while I don't know who the artist is, I still adore each of these. The other night I set out to get a quick night photo of one of the newest statues. This one is situated outside of a coffee shop and sets such a nice tone to the street.

I have a soap problem. I have bars and bars of the stuff. I have soap hidden in my closet, hidden in the linen closet and some proudly displayed in my bathroom. I do love a fresh bar of soap. Within each new bar of soap is a promise of freshness, of newness, of clean scents.

I'm a little teapot, short and stout. Here is my handle, here is my spout. Tip me over and I will shout! I'm a little teapot, short and stout.

June of my Feral Knitter's group made this lovely teapot cozy using only two strands of 2 skeins of yarn. I'm so impressed and I tried to make off with this lovely, lovely piece but she caught me. She also brought the most delicious shortbread cookies I think I've ever had. June used to be a chef and let me tell you, she's a fantastic one!

This green bowl sits next to my reading chair on a nightstand too cluttered for its own good. Nearly every Thursday I have teriyaki from Iciban and at the end of my favorite routined meal, I get a fortune cookie. I collect my fortunes inside this bowl while a white dog protects them. I always hope that my fortune will prove to be true as they always tend to be so very good.

Today I met up with Julie for a walk around Greenlake. After trying to meet up with another friend Kim while on our walk (and it not working out), we decided to grab some pizza in Fremont. Kim suggested visiting the Empty Space garage sale where I saw this "Box Office" sign. I love the vibrant red.

Today's Photo Friday theme is "Pink". There is a Seattle institution where Seattlites get their cars washed, called "The Pink Elephant Carwash". Since one of their locations is near my office, I decided to head down after work and get my photo of the "Pink Elephant"

Destiny is mad at me and I don't know why. She's been busy giving me the look of death all night. She's been stalking me and hiding behind corners. When she sees me, she presents me with the look, the look of death.

I'm sure I'll be forgiven soon but I'll still wonder what I did to piss her off.

As I was driving home tonight, I spotted this brightly lit window with one sign that struck me as particularly funny.

I think it was the combo of the bedroom store with this huge sign for Latex that made me laugh.

Another view of my desk...this is what I stare at 8 hours a day, though the screen does change from time to time (I'm not always checking out my blog!)

The rain streak continues. Last night the rain was pelting the house and the wind was blowing like a loon. Will the sun ever return?

During Mot's Finals, she avoided studying by reading some of my knitting books. After looking at them for awhile, she announced that she wanted me to make her leg warmers (if it wasn't too much trouble). Since the pattern was from "Last Minute Knitted Gifts", I knew they wouldn't take too long and so I quickly ran off to the yarn store for supplies.

This weekend, I finished the leg warmers and Mot agreed to model them for me. She even called me late last night to thank me for keeping her legs warm. Mot lives in a drafty house and anything that keeps you warmer is a great treat.

I met up with Meg and Carrie today for the start of our Felted Hobo Bag Knit-Along at Cafe Ladro. We cast-on and spent time knitting away while drinking coffee and discussing men. Always a great way to spend an afternoon!

I drove up to Stanwood today for my hair cut and color. Instead of taking the freeway home from the salon, I took a side road until I hit Marysville. Along the way I spied barns, farms and a bit of beach. As I turned the corner of one road, I noticed this interesting sign.

I met up with two of my favorite friends for dinner tonight. Meg made Darcy and I wonderful fish tacos and we brought dessert. It's funny, I've known Darcy for a few years and this year we both met Meg through two totally different groups. When we figured out that we all knew each other, we started hanging out as a group. It works and we always have a grand time together. Next month -- BRUNCH!

I'm pet-sitting Finnely, Swat and Kenai for a few days. These are the most lovely animals and just saying their names brings me joy. I tried to capture the three of them together but since the dog tries to attack the cats (mind you, he is smaller than them), it was neigh impossible. Still, I enjoy this photo of Finnely in the morning.

Fred sits on my desk at work. He is a "dog" pot holder in one of my favorite colors, orange (Pink is my absolute favorite but purple and orange hold a strong second). I do so love Fred. He makes me smile when people on the phone are making me frown.

I believe these photos were taken around the same time. Each of them feature my best friends. Each of them involved a trip.

The one to the left shows Matya and I at Old Faithful. Matya had come to visit me when I was working in Yellowstone for my second summer and our trip turned into an adventure. After a new starter for the car and an unplanned stay at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel, we had finally made our way down to Old Faithful. It was pouring down rain but we were not about to let water ruin our visit. We put on our coats and headed over to the geyser. I was wearing an atrociously colored jacket and Matya's skinny legs were blindingly white. We asked some other brave tourists to take our photo and we smiled so big because we knew this was a trip destined to star in our memories. This was also the day that my nickname, ReeBecki was born. Matya decided she would call me Park Ranger ReeBecki. The Park Ranger bit dropped off by the ReeBecki bit stuck.

The photo on the right shows Louise and I with the Pike Place Market Pig. Louise came to visit me from England after my first summer working at Yellowstone. It was our first time meeting in person though we had been writing to each other since we were 14 years old. I took Louise every where but it was at Pike Place that she was able to see the city she had already studied in movies. We re-enacted scenes from "Sleepless in Seattle" and had some great laughs.

These photos sit on my dresser so I can see my best friends every day. It has been years since these photos were taken but I am happy that I can still see each of my dear friends everyday even when they are far away.

Tonight I headed over to Third Place books to knit with the Ferals. I always have such a great time, though I can't say that I really get much knitting done. I think I enjoy the conversation and company more than the productive knitting time.

This is one of my favorite fabrics. I made a small lingerie bag out of it but I could really see it as puffy pants for a child or a cute little jumper. I love the pink ladybugs. It's a bit sad that they don't come that color naturally.

I met up with my college roommate today for coffee at a Starbucks. She's almost 7 months along and it has been fun to watch her belly take shape. The baby (a girl) is due in early March which coincides with Kim's birthday. I think it is interesting how many children are born near their own parent's birthdays. My Dad's birthday is the day after his father's and my birthday is 9 days later. All in all though I think Kimmy is looking so cute! I am anxious to see the baby girl though!

The books next to my bed have begun to grow. I'm in my period of massive reading, be it about people, cooking, knitting or historical pieces. I'm hungry for books and crave my reading time before bed. Reading has even helped ease me back into regular exercise. I do so love books.

Self Portrait Tuesday - January 3, 2006

Today is Self Portrait Tuesday and this month's theme is "Personal History"

Next to my bed, I have a reading light and these two photos. They show me at two different periods in my life.

The photo on the left shows me in my Aunt's room dressed in her boots. I guess I've always had a tendancy to enjoy the boots! When she gave me this photo, she told me that when I used to visit, I would run into her closet and start trying on her clothing and shoes. This sounds like me. I was a desparate snoop and while I've tried to cull it over the years, the desire is still there!

The second photo on the right shows me in front of Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam. I loved her book as a child and when I was given the opportunity to visit the city she spent her last few years in, I knew I had to visit her house and see the cabinet. This was a fun trip and this photo reminds me of Anne.

Le Monstre is my trusty monster from Paris. He looks kooky and crazed but he's really a nice guy. One who poses in baby sweaters and whatnot at will. I think his creator, Christian Lacroix would approve of the modeling side job.

As I shivered on the shores of Lake Washington this morning preparing for my first (and quite possibly my last) Polar Bear Swim, I spotted this tree framing the choppy waters ahead of me. The wind whipped past, throwing my hair in the air. While the waters were choppy and the entry into the water cold, the swim ended up a success!
